There are Wakeborders...and then there are the Winn's

The Server's were so great to take a handful of us out on their boat Monday night. Trevor and I had a great time - it was great company, great food (thanks Bridgette), great weather, great water, and a great boat. Couldn't ask for more. Well, accept to maybe get up on the board that everyone else had. Such a simple task. "Just drive your heels Lesley" and "It's just a feel thing Trevor." As Trevor's face shows in the below picture, it was just tough to even comprehend our lack of competence when it came to this activity.

But the again, Trevor and I knew going into it, the Winn's just aren't "board people." We knew we weren't, but got sucked into thinking "maybe this time" (well, Trevor just got forced to do it, I don't think he ever thought there was a chance). It felt good trying though. Well, two days later my back just hurts, but on that day it felt good trying :)

Here are some photos of the REAL WAKEBOARDERS, SURFERS, AND SLALOMERS. Just pop right up on the water, whatever kind of board, first time. Ain't no thang. They were all so professional, really. Very impressive guys.

Couldn't not post the priceless crash pics...
Click here to see video footage of the crashes on the Blacks' blog.

Trevor's escapades...

Now you see him, now you don't.

For some reason there weren't a lot of pictures of me crashing, and trust me, it happened many many times. Trevor just did't believe their photographic quality was high enough to keep, so I never even got to see them. So, don't think it was just Trevor that drank half the lake. Plus, somehow I got stuck by a dead fish floating on the water and since I couldn't ever get up, I could never get away from it. Dead fish = nasty.

But for the record, I managed to squeak up one time. It wasn't for long and right when I fell all I could think about was how there's no way I could do that again. It was fun while it last though! I'm having bit of an itch to try it again actually. I want to become one of those board people!

Are those my feet on the board!?...............Classic focus face

It was a really fun activity for a Monday evening. Even baby Jacob seemed to enjoy it...

Hey there, Les - you got some great pics! Looks like loads of fun - and I can totally relate to your story. Sounds an awful lot like the time I tried water skiing for the first time with Uncle Paul & co. in MN. Not a pretty site. :)

Wow! first of all the quality of those photos is rediculous! second of all i regret staying up so long because every muscle in my body is STILL sore! Those pics are priceless really! I too have an intense concentration going on in one of the pics. Is that your tounge pressing into your lower lip as you are concentrating? My legs look super white unlike your golden tanned legs. I guess I need to go to the pool more. Trevor you did great and don't worry cause Sadie hearts you!! well if you guys haven't checked out our wipe out videos on Dan and Michelles blog you should ASAP!

It's about time the Winns suck at something.

I know you're supposed to drink a ton of water this week, but it doesn't have to be lake water!

I seriously love the pics! Good camera work!

Wakeboarding is not that hard. Seriously guys.

Man, these pictures make me wish so badly that my father-in-law would register his boat and then give it to Becky and I as a gift.

By the way, I know how it feels. If someone held a gun to my face and said "get up on a slalom ski" I'd be dead in about three seconds.

I enjoyed the Russ comment. haha. I am sure the Winter's feel the same way, and I bet there kids will be the "boarders." Just for the record I can and have gotten up, just ask the Scofields/Drapers. I can relate though, I got a good laugh out of this post, nicely done. Loved the focus face, and Les the legs are looking good.

That's a funny post.

I remember watching Trevor try to wakeboard on Utah Lake. Your line "drank half the lake" pretty much sums up his attempt.

I know what drinking lake water is like, I'm surprised Utah Lake even has any left after the last time I went skiing. And Leslie, I think you should be proud that you were up long enough to take a few pictures. I usually get up just long enough for one quick, blurry picture before I'm back in the water.

I've never seen a wakeboard that you didnt have bindings to slide your feet into. That looked rough! Loved the effort. Come to CA Les and Trev, you need a better teacher! :) Oh wait, I need to have this baby first... next summer. I am sure by then you'll be pros.

Les,

If you can explain in a manner worth your time on how to post pictures so they fit so nicely in your posts, I would appreciate it.

Great post and great camera work, Lesley. I felt like I was right there in the boat. Anyway, I ripped my shorts last time I went wake boarding... pretty embarrassing to say the least. But I guess it just comes with the territory.

Time for a new post, perhaps something witty from Trevor? Steve says he has some things in the works and he's going to ponder some great blog ideas while on his road trip with Dory.

Your creativity in posting this Wake event is amazing! You two are good at almost everything you do, so it's fun to see you poke fun at yourself for something that wasn't like second nature!
