Broadway, Blackjack, and Booze

Well, we at least partook of one of the three items above and the Blackjack was great I tell you. Kidding, I'm pregnant, so no gambling. Wait, no, that's the drinking thing. Nonetheless, the Broadway show we saw was spectacular as well as the relaxing week we had in Las Vegas for our "last-get-away-before-the-little-guy-comes" vacation. (A shout out to Grandma Illa for letting us use her time share and talking us out of going to Mexico - Thanks Illa!).

To start, I must note that I was 7 months pregnant for this vacation, so Trevor did a great job of adjusting to all that I realized I couldn't do - rollercoasters, loads of walking...or really little bits of walking considering the heat that week, and just being in the heat without a pool near by in general. For those (family) asking to see my big belly, here are a few shots we captures from Vegas week (yes, that's a SYTYCD reference).

Without further adeu...some highlights of our week.

A trip to Hoover Dam (Trevor really pushed this, but I ended up being really glad we went)

We saw a handful of shows...The Lion King, "O," and the Tournament of Kings.

Spent a tiny bit of time on the strip...mainly when we were walking to our shows.

Here's what I might call the "low light" of our trip - Red Rock Canyon. Trevor says, "Do NOT go to Red Rock Canyon." Basically, if you've ever hiked anywhere else in the world, it's cooler than this place, sorry Red Rock (as pictured below, Trevor is using the binaculars to look at me about 3 feet away from him instead of the majectic view).

Lastly, a few highlights....besides the excellent shows, lots of pool time, and way too much food...we found Trevor shoes for 20 bucks at the outlets (see his victory photo below) and then discovered a little place called "Paradise Golf Resort." This dream of a 9-hole course is in Fillmore, UT. Only discovered because the 9th hole is behind a gas station we filled up at.

Here are two great photos of Trevor and I both trying to deal with our belly's while golfing (to Trevor's credit, his button has broken off his shorts - that's why he was showing mid-drift on all 9 holes).

The "Cave"

Trevor first went "the cave" with his young men, and I tell you what, I didn't stop hearing about how awesome "the cave" was until he finagled me into going (It was actually quite the deal, I said I would go to "the cave" if he shaved his beard - check and check). Thus, one weekend in April, Trevor picked me up from the airport and we headed out to Stansbury Island for our trip to the cave.

What is "the cave"?
"The cave" is just as it sounds, a cave. A cave resides in the side of a mountain. The walls are rock and the ground is dirt, with very hard rocks.

Here is the entrance to "the cave." It's size is very deceiving. The cave just comes out of no where.

The top left shows the base of the cave as you enter. Once inside the cave you look up and around and it's just huge (it was hard to capture it's size with a photo).

Looking from inside "the cave" out.

Where is "the cave"?

The cave is behind us and out of the photo to the left. Like I said earlier, it's on Stansbury Island, just west of Antelope Island for those of you that are familiar with the area.

Just hike up a bunch of hills and sides of the mountains (a few of which are pictured below), never move horizontally, but only vertically, and you'll find the cave.

What do you do at "the cave"?

1. Scavenge for and cut fire wood, mainly

Full-time job for Trevor. Lots and lots of chopping, dragging, kicking, pulling.

But he loved every minute of it.

Here's a shot showing the "scavenge" piece of the deal. Trevor went and found about the only wood left in that not-so-prideland-when-Mufasa-reigned land.

2. Build and move fires

It's a good thing Trevor did go find all that wood because the second major activity was starting fires and then moving them.

Fire sites 1 and 2. (ps. building a fire in a cave - not smart, picture on the left below)

Final fire site 3.

3. Not sleep

Sleeping on the floor of a cave is not possible. This could also have been because I was about 6.5 months pregnant at the time, but I'm pretty sure Trevor would confirm, the pain caused by the floor of "the cave" is enough to cause anyone nightmares. It inflicted pain on my body that was almost unbearable. Bears are special animals for being able to sleep for months in caves.

Why should you go to "the cave"?

1. You get to see this as the sun goes down...and feel like you're the only two people in the world watching.

2. Roasting starbursts!!

3. And of course take a fun little trip with my great husband that let's him be one with nature.
